Gaited horse

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As gaited horses are called horses , in addition to or instead of the basic paces step , trot and canter one or more of the special gaits tölt , pass , Paso , foxtrot , Walk , Marcha , rack and Slow Gait show.

With the exception of the pass, all of these gears are a variation of the step, i.e. a four-bar gait. The goal is always a flowing movement that enables the rider to move about with as little vibration as possible. Gaited horses can in principle belong to any horse breed , but there are also breeds specially selected for special gears.

Gaited horse breeds are common all over the world.

Some of these breeds are still relatively new breeds.

Gaited horses are genetically predisposed to their special gait . Studies on Icelandic horses showed that the ability to run in a pass or tölt is closely related to the occurrence of a mutation in the DMRT3 gene . The gene variant has also been observed in other multi-gaited horses such as the Tennessee Walking Horse or Paso Fino. However, consistent training is usually required to achieve the tact purity that makes riding so comfortable. Gaited horses are basically ridden in the same way as three-gaited horses (horses that only show walk, trot and canter). The American gaited horses are mostly ridden in the Western or slightly modified English style . The English riding style predominates among the Europeans, while the South Americans are mostly presented in a modified Spanish riding style .
