Fruit and horticultural association

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fruit and horticultural associations (OGV) are mostly local associations in towns and villages, whose members mainly deal with the topics of fruit growing , horticulture and landscape maintenance.

history

Already under Charlemagne (around 800) there were precise regulations on horticulture and arboriculture for the royal estates. From the Middle Ages to modern times, the governments or higher authorities have repeatedly given instructions and impulses for private garden use. The establishment of industrial gardens around 1790 , which were called school gardens in the 19th century and in which the teachers gave the children practical lessons in horticulture, is significant .

The importance of the fruit and horticultural associations or the local fruit and vegetable cultivation was often important for the nutrition of the population. Vegetables were not grown for fun, but simply out of hunger.
