Garvão is a place and a municipality of freguesia in the Baixo Alentejo in Portugal . The place is in the county of Ourique , and has an area of 44.2 km² with 730 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011). Funcheira is in the municipality of Garvão . This is where the Linha do Sul and Linha do Alentejo railway lines come together. From here, the combined routes lead across the mountains to the Algarve .
history
The first settlement approaches go back to the time of the Celts . Garvão itself was the capital of a district between 1267 and the beginning of the 19th century. At that time it consisted of the parishes (freguesias) of Garvão and Santa Luzia . There were already 878 inhabitants there in 1801. In the place there are remains of an ancient city wall of the Cerro do Castelo and the Fort of Garvão.
