Gary Goldstein

Gary Goldstein (* 1950 in Nashville , Tennessee ) is an Israeli artist and art lecturer. His works have been exhibited in museums and galleries and are part of the permanent collections of the Tel Aviv Museum , the Israel Museum , the Victoria and Albert Museum , the Tate Gallery in London and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

biography

Goldstein is the son of Holocaust survivors who emigrated to the United States after World War II . He grew up in Hartford , Connecticut .

Goldstein earned his MFA . at the Pratt Institute of Art in New York. Influenced by Pop Art , Surrealism , Dada , soft porn from the 40s and 50s as well as cabbalistic amulets and the Talmud , he creates comic-like works in which techniques as well as images and symbols are repeated that create a clear visual language.

Goldstein emigrated to Israel in 1977 , where he was initially a member of Kibbutz Afikim . In 1981 he moved to Jerusalem and lived there until 2011 when he moved to Tel Aviv , where he lives and works today.
