history
The oldest mention of the village comes from around 1450. It belonged to the Bieber office , a fief of Kurmainz to the County of Rieneck and the County of Hanau-Münzenberg , which administered it as a condominium . After 1559 it was a condominium between Kurmainz and Hanau-Münzenberg, whose part of the condominium was still a fiefdom of Kurmainz. After an exchange of territories and rights, it belonged completely to Hanau from 1684 - again as a fief of Kurmainz. 1736 died with Count Johann Reinhard III. the last Count of Hanau and the county of Hanau-Münzenberg fell to the Landgraviate of Hessen-Kassel (from 1803: " Electorate of Hesse "). In 1821 there was a fundamental administrative reform there. The Bieber office - and thus also Gassen - was added to the newly formed Gelnhausen district. From 1895 Gassen formed a community with Büchelbach . This was later united with Bieber, to which both villages have always belonged in church. In 1971, Bieber merged with the municipalities of Breitenborn / Lützel , Roßbach and Lanzingen as part of the regional reform in Hesse to form the (large) municipality of Bieber, which in turn has formed the (new) municipality of Biebergemünd since 1974 together with Biebergemünd. In the same year, the Gelnhausen district became part of the Main-Kinzig district.
