Gastón Kogan Kogan (born May 4, 1918 in France , † December 7, 1997 in San José , Costa Rica ) was a Costa Rican entrepreneur, politician and diplomat.

Life

Gastón Kogan Kogan studied business administration in France and was employed by the construction company La Panamericana in Costa Rica.

In 1960 he founded the first supermarket chain in Costa Rica, which today operates as Más x Menos . In 1970 he opened the first shopping center in Costa Rica, the Centro comercial josefino , today Los Yoses Plaza in San Pedro de Montes de Oca. He played tennis and was one of the founders of the Copa del Cafe . From 1970 to 1974 Gastón Kogan Kogan was Ministro de Economía, Industria y Comercio in the government of José Figueres Ferrer .

From 1974 he was head of Refinadora Costanccense de Petroleo SA (RECOPE) in the government of Daniel Oduber Quirós . Under his leadership, the state-owned company acquired the US company Allied Chemical , which operated the Moin Refinery ( petroleum refinery ) in Puerto Limón , for a Costa Rican Colon .

From 1982 to 1986 during the government of Luis Alberto Monge Álvarez he was ambassador to Tokyo , and from 1985 he was also accredited in Canberra , Manila , New Delhi , Jakarta , Wellington and Colombo .
