Gaston Fernand Redon (born October 28, 1853 in Bordeaux , † November 20, 1921 in Paris ) was a French architect and from 1914 a member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts .

Redon was born in Bordeaux as the third son of the wealthy landowner Bertrand Redon and his wife Marie Guerin. The family was artistically inclined: his brother Odilon Redon became an artist, the other brother Ernest became a musician. Redon attended the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris , which he finished in 1883 with a diploma. In the same year he received the Prix ​​de Rome . Therefore, Redon lived in the Villa Medici between 1884 and 1887 . Here he met Claude Debussy , with whom he was to become a lifelong friend.

Upon his return to Paris, Redon became a government architect. Initially he was responsible for the manufacture of goblins , and later he was the architect for the public buildings in Paris. Redon was responsible for the expansion of the Rubens Hall and the Van Dyck Hall in the Louvre and the renovation and installation of the Musée des Arts décoratifs in the Pavillon de Marsan in 1905. In 1914 he was elected to the Académie des Beaux-Arts .

Intensive he devoted himself to teaching at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts: Together with Alfred Henri Recoura he took over in 1891 the workshop Coquart-Gerhardt and there formed architects like Roger-Henri Expert , Albert Laprade , Léon Azéma and Michel Roux-Spitz from .

The Musée d'Orsay preserves many of his drawings with fantastic, surrealistic architecture.
