Gauci Tower ( Maltese Torri Gauci ) is a small, rectangular residential tower in Naxxar , Malta .

history

The tower was built in 1548 by Francesco Gauci to protect his family. The cost was 400 scudi . In 1548 the Order of Malta took over the building for a short time to accommodate the captain of the Naxxar militia. By decree of May 16, 1548, the tower was returned to Gauci at his request. The Captain's Tower was built for the captain of the militia .

The well-preserved tower is privately owned and is not open to the public.

architecture

Torri Gauci is a rectangular limestone building with two floors, the lower of which protrudes. Maschikulis are arranged around the flat roof , and the tower shows loopholes and slits for viewing.
