The Gauliga Südwest 1938/39 was the sixth season of the Gauliga Südwest in football. The RTuSV Wormatia Worms - in the summer of 1938, the VfR had merged with the Reichsbahner-Sportverein - was ultimately able to secure the third Gaumeist title after 1936 and 1937 after the FSV defeated their worst competitor, Eintracht, 2-1 on the penultimate matchday in the city derby would have. FC Kaiserslautern and SC Opel Rüsselsheim prevailed, and due to the restructuring in the new season, three more teams moved up.

Saarbrücken and Pirmasens were therefore determined to be relegated, but were still allowed to participate due to the division of the league into two seasons in 1939/40. FV Saarbrücken withdrew their team before the start of the next season.
