Gavino Murgia (* 1969 in Nuoro ) is a Sardinian jazz saxophonist and singer. Murgia learned to play the saxophone autodidactically at the age of fourteen. Later he attended the seminars of trumpeter Paolo Fresu in Siena and became a member of the Orchestra Jazz della Sardegna , where he performed under the direction of Bruno Tommaso , Giancarlo Gazzani and Mario Raja . He also worked with the Blue Note Orchestra and the PN Big Band .

For five years he was a member of Mario Rajas Bigband, a twelve-person ensemble, which u. a. and Pietro Tonolo , Piero Leveratto , Maurizio Giammarco , Roberto Gatto , Marco Tamburini , Giampaolo Casati and Gabriele Mirabassi belonged. With the ensemble he took part in all important jazz festivals in Italy. He has also performed in Europe, South Africa, the USA and Cuba. He worked with Riccardo Lay's quartet, in a duo with Bebo Ferra and is a member of Rabih Abou-Khalil's band . Since the early 2000s he has been working regularly in a duo with Michel Godard ( Le Concert Des Parfums , 2009). In addition to the saxophone, he also plays folk instruments such as the traditional Sardinian launeddas and the duduk and sings in the Sardinian variant of larynx singing .

He is the band leader of the Gavino Murgia Blast Quartet .
