The Gazzetta del Sud ( Journal of the South ) is an Italian daily newspaper that was founded in Messina , Sicily in 1952 . It is one of the most important newspapers in southern Italy, has the largest readership in Calabria and is the third most widely read daily in Sicily, after Giornale di Sicilia and La Sicilia . In 1952 the Gazzetta del Sud was founded by the Piedmontese businessman Uberto Bonino, a member of the Italian Liberal Party . The paper has been a tabloid since 2006 . In 2017 he took over the management of the competitor Giornale di Sicilia .
