Distribution area

The dialect was spoken in the Sudetes , in the south of the former Prussian provinces of Lower Silesia  and Upper Silesia as well as in the north of Moravia and Austrian Silesia and in the extreme northeast of Bohemia . The dialects spoken in the Lusatian Bergland and the County of Glatz were not seen as part of mountain Silesian. After the flight and displacement of the German-speaking population after the Second World War , this dialect is largely only spoken in the diaspora and is acutely threatened with extinction .

vocabulary

The mountain Silesian spoken in the Sudeten region was a very differentiated dialect. Even the inhabitants of villages not far from each other had a linguistic peculiarity. In general, Mountain Silesian is part of East Central German, but with terms that come from the Polish or Czech language .

SILESIAN FARMER CANTATE Daniel Stoppe (1728)

Ols enser Herrgott hot amol, dan green forest daschoffen
Do hot a my soul probably ice black nei met,
Because ensre A'de, dos wes Got hot seemers never to point,
and wa'n forest ols Heimat hot da should praise each other happily.

And I lame myself to the last rest, amol still dan companion,

Because there is a kingdom of heaven
since the forest never seemed to rustle,
