The Law of Silence (Original title: A Stoning in Fulham County ) is an American drama from 1988 , which is based on a true story in the 1970s. The film premiered in the USA on October 24, 1988 and was premiered on November 8, 1994 on the German private broadcaster VOX in Germany.
action
An Amish community lives in Fulham County, North Carolina, USA . The life of the community is suddenly interrupted when stray youths throw stones into an Amish carriage, killing an infant. The child's parents, Jacob and Sarah Shuler, are then exposed to the glee of the other villagers.
The young prosecutor Jim Sandler tries to initiate a process against the young people - among other things against the will of the parents, who do not want to take legal action. Instead, according to Amish ideology, they want to accept the violence without retaliation. Sandler is determined to force a verdict. In doing so, he wants to avoid calling the only eyewitness to the crime - his daughter Rachel.
criticism
“The Law of Silence comes with some outstanding acting performances. Above all, this includes Ron Perlman's portrait of a compassionate and taciturn man who is mentally incapable of changing his lifestyle for the benefit of others. "
"Thanks to an intelligently designed script and solid performance as an actor, an above-average examination of the Amish people's religious community."
