Noble Willingham

Noble Willingham (born August 31, 1931 in Mineola , Texas , † January 17, 2004 in Palm Springs , California ) was an American film actor .

biography

Noble Willingham, who was born in Mineola, east of Dallas , graduated from the University of North Texas at Denton in 1953 . In order to finance the training, Willingham worked as a plumber in the Texas oil fields. After that he embarked on the professional career of a teacher. He taught economics and business administration at Sam Houston High School in Houston .

His entry into the film business brought him a small supporting role in Peter Bogdanovich's classic film The Last Show , which was shot in 1970 in his native Texas. Bogdanovich was so impressed with his skills that he promised him another role in another film when he moved to Los Angeles. He agreed and, as promised, got a role there in Paper Moon (1973). The success of the film meant that Willingham has been in front of the camera regularly as an actor and thus fulfilled his childhood dream. Initially represented in typical Texan character roles in westerns such as Bonanza and Smoking Colts , after the success in the aforementioned film he was also able to convince in numerous other TV series such as The Waltons and After Mash , and feature films such as Brubaker (1980) and Good Morning Vietnam (1987) . Most recently, between 1993 and 1999, Willingham was a cast member of the television series Walker, Texas Ranger .

In 2000, Willingham quit acting and ran for the United States House of Representatives in the Texas First Congressional District . However, the Republican challenger lost the election to the Democratic incumbent Max Sandlin . Willingham received 43.4 percent of the vote, Sandlin 55.8 percent.

Noble Willingham was married twice. Doris Humphrey was his wife between 1955 and 1983 and the couple had one child. In the mid-1980s he married Patti Ross, with whom the actor had three more children.

Noble Willingham died of natural causes on January 17, 2004 at the age of 72.
