The Gediminas Sports Middle School Kaunas (lit. Kauno Gedimino sporto ir sveikatinimo vidurinė mokykla ) is a general secondary school with a special focus on sport . It is located in the second largest Lithuanian city ​​of Kaunas and has 587 students and 46 employees (as of 2012). After 12 classes and Abitur, the university entrance qualification is achieved.

history

In August 1920 the six-stage city school in Kaunas was restructured into a grammar school . From 1924 to 1928 the school was called "Second State High School" and from 1928 to 1936 "Third State High School". In October 1940 it was renamed the "Third Middle School" and in 1946 the "Third Girls Middle School". In 1954 the Kaunas Municipality decided to name the school after the poet Salomėja Nėris and set up a museum. Since 2010 it has been called "Gediminas Middle School for Sport and Health Promotion Kaunas" after the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas .
