El Infierno (translated as Hell ) is a Mexican fictional film from 2010 that satirically addresses the Mexican drug war and organized crime in Mexico. Directed by Luis Estrada , who wrote the script together with Jaime Sampietro . The leading roles were played by Damián Alcázar , Joaquín Cosío , Ernesto Gómez Cruz , María Rojo , Elizabeth Cervantes and Daniel Giménez Cacho . It was produced by Bandidos Films . The premiere took place on September 3, 2010 shortly before the celebrations for the 200th anniversary of Mexico's independence.

The film begins with Benjamin García, known as "El Benny", saying goodbye to his mother and younger brother in order to emigrate to the United States. 20 years later, El Benny is deported from the USA and finds his village in a disturbing state. Irrational violence, widespread corruption and the economic crisis that plagues the country have devastated it. Seeing no alternatives and to help his family, El Benny starts drug trafficking. For the first time in his life he achieved instant prosperity and a life full of money, women and violence. However, he finally learns first hand that the temptations of a criminal career do not always keep what they promise.

The film was shot mainly in the state of San Luis Potosí and Mexico City from November to December 19, 2009 .

El Infierno was the most commercially successful film that was shot on the occasion of Mexico's 200 years of independence. It was seen by over 2 million viewers and brought in almost 83 million Mexican pesos at the box office.
Awards
The film won numerous awards at the Premios Ariel , a. a. for best film, best director, best male leading actor, best male supporting actor and best editing.
