The Fallen Memorial is a listed war memorial in Hiddestorf , a district of Hemmingen in the Hanover region in Lower Saxony . The memorial was built in honor of the First World War fallen from Hiddestorf and from the neighboring Ohlendorf built. It was later expanded to accommodate those who died in both places in World War II, as well as relatives of the refugees and displaced persons who came here .

Every year at the Hiddestorfer Memorial, the victims of both world wars, persecution and displacement are commemorated on the day of national mourning.

description

Cenotaph for the fallen in the First World War

The multi-part memorial was erected in the line of sight of the section of Schulstrasse leading to the Hiddestorfer Nikolai Church on the north side of the tower on the leveled old church cemetery . Hiddestorf long had a new cemetery on Birkenweg south of the church. The parish of the Evangelical Lutheran Nikolai Church includes not only Hiddestorf but also the Hemminger district of Ohlendorf, which is directly to the north.

The joint memorial for those who fell in World War I from the two locations is in the shadow of tall, around 125-year-old linden trees and beeches . It is beautifully crafted from light sandstone . The figure of a sunken warrior rests on a high plinth.

On the stone wall that borders the memorial to the east, a paw cross and a series of metal tablets were attached to those who died in the two places in World War II .
