action

Anna Krüger wants to spend a vacation together with her twelve-year-old son Max on a remote Thai island. You are planning relaxing days in a quiet but also quite luxurious holiday home in order to deal with the accidental death of Anna's husband Stefan. The idyll seems perfect: blue sea, bright sky, turtles on the beach. But then pirates attack the hotel complex. An ally in the fenced and electrically secured area sabotages the electrical system, so that all security systems are paralyzed and an emergency call cannot be sent to the mainland. Around twenty heavily armed men land in two boats and kidnap the vacationers in order to extort ransom from the embassies. While Max falls into the hands of the hostage takers, his mother and diving instructor Philipp manage to escape. While Philipp urges them to keep quiet, Anna wants to prevent the kidnappers from crossing to the mainland with their son at all costs. Since she has had problems with Stefan's accident as soon as she comes into contact with water, Anna now has to overcome this in order to save her child. With the fuel on the ships, she sets the boats on fire, forcing the pirates to stay with their hostages in the hotel complex until they have repaired the damage. Anna is looking for a way to free her son. Philipp thinks just to wait until you notice on the mainland that something is wrong here. That would be in three days at the latest, when the next supply ship comes to the island. But Anna doesn't want to wait that long, she asks Philipp if they could get help from the old watchtower on the other side of the island. He says that there is only an ancient radio that is not sure whether it will still work. In addition, the way there would be far too dangerous because the pirates are looking for them. Anna doesn't care, she sets off through the jungle. When, in spite of all caution, she meets one of the pirates who wants to kill her immediately, Philipp intervenes and saves her. Contrary to his own conviction, just to wait and see, he doesn't want to leave Anna alone. He also knows the island well and knows a shortcut to the tower. It leads through a cave, where they find cover, but their pursuers stay on their tracks and catch Philipp. Anna can escape and is now on her own. In fact, Anna manages to climb the ramshackle tower and notify the coast guard, but the hostage-takers also hear her radio message and are warned. They send their allies to meet the arriving police officers to explain that everything is fine. The hotel complex actually looks peaceful, but the pirates are soon shooting at the police officers and killing them. The hostages are now being brought to the Coast Guard boat. Anna is almost in a panic. She shows up and threatens to kill the pirate leader Thiha's son if he does not release the hostages. But Thiha is just as under pressure as Anna. The poverty of his people drives him to piracy. He even wants to sacrifice his son if that means the other locals can live. Anna doesn't manage to shoot the boy and is now brought onto the boat with the other hostages. Meanwhile reinforcements arrive from the mainland, so the pirates flee and leave their hostages behind, who are now being rescued by the coast guard.

criticism

Tilmann P. Gangloff from tittelbach.tv said: “'Gefangen im Paradies' is a professionally staged adventure film with a survival role for Anna Loos, who also had to face a number of physical challenges.” “Basically, the film is already short after the introduction to a long finale, which Felix Herzogenrath staged appropriately captivating. "However," In contrast to the multi-layered heroine [...] the other characters are largely drawn one-dimensional. "

The critics of the TV magazine TV Spielfilm only gave a medium rating (thumbs straight) and said: “The budget deficiencies are concealed in the Sat.1 teardrop by a dignified appearance. In terms of content, it presents itself as an adventurously crude mishmash of soap opera and survival thriller. Exciting, but also flat and bright. "

Lena Skrotzki from the FAZ said: “Unfortunately, neither the script nor the director Felix Herzogenrath can quite decide what the film 'Captive in Paradise' should be: an adventure thriller or a family story? You try both in one, which leads to a dramatic ups and downs. Dramatic action scenes alternate with rather silly dialogue sequences "
