history

Hotel Königshof, 2010

The Geisel family began their occupation in the hotel and restaurant business at the beginning of the 20th century with a marquee at the Munich Oktoberfest . In 1923/24 Karl and Anna Geisel founded the Pasinger Weinbauer restaurant . From 1924/25 came Zum Brüderl and in 1933/34 the “ Bürgerbräu ” in Munich's Kaufingerstraße , which became the regular pub of FC Bayern Munich . In 1935 the family opened their first hotel called Hotel Rheinhof . The following year they bought the Hotel Excelsior , which was followed by the Hotel Königshof in 1938 . In 1943 the Hotel Rheinhof was given up because it was too badly damaged by the war. The Hotel Excelsior was confiscated by the American occupation forces in 1945 and served as their headquarters . Until it was returned in 1956, the Geisel family worked there as employees in their own house.

Three generations later, the vineyard and the vinotheque are under the management of the brothers Carl, Michael and Stephan Geisel. In 1995 they opened the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Munich- Schwabing , followed by their fourth hotel, the Design Hotel Anna , in the center of Munich at Stachus in 2002.

In 2000, Stephan Geisel opened the Geisels Weingalerie wine shop on the ground floor of the Hotel Königshof.

Martin Fauster was head chef in the gourmet restaurant Königshof in the Hotel Königshof from 2004 to 2018 .

The Geisels Werneckhof in Munich-Schwabing has been owned by the family since October 2011. Chef Tohru Nakamura has been with Werneckhof since April 2013, which received its second Michelin star in 2016 . In June 2020 the restaurant was closed due to the corona epidemic requirements.

The Hotel Excelsior was modernized in the first half of 2017 and the Geisel's Vinothek on the ground floor was expanded.

In September 2017 the luxury city residence Beyond was opened on Munich's Marienplatz . The concept of the residence includes a private chef who prepares dishes of your choice around the clock and a personal concierge service . At the beginning of 2018, the Hotel Schwabinger Truth will open (formerly Cosmopolitan Hotel ). To make it clear that the companies belong to Geisel Privathotels, in 2017 all hotels and restaurants received the suffix “by Geisel”.

The Hotel Königshof was closed in December 2018 and is to be rebuilt by 2021.

The luxury train Luxon by Geisel was presented in March 2019 .
