The common ornamental bug ( Adelphocoris lineolatus ) is a type of bug from the family of soft bugs (Miridae).

features

The bugs are 7.5 to 9.4 millimeters long. One can distinguish the species from the other soft bug species, which are often similarly pale green in color, by their size and rather elongated body. The spurs on the rails ( tibia ) of the hind legs are the same length or longer than the width of the rails. The conspicuously pale cuneus of the hemielytres and the dark lines along the inner edge of the hemielytres are also characteristic of the species .

Occurrence and habitat

The species is distributed throughout Europe and North Africa as well as east across Siberia, Central Asia and China to Japan. It is also found in northern India and was introduced into North America by humans. It is widespread and common in Central Europe.

Sunny, dry and warm to slightly damp, rarely also damp open habitats are settled.

Way of life

The bugs feed on various legumes , such as snail clover ( Medicago ), clover ( Trifolium ), pickaxe ( Ononis ), flat peas ( Lathyrus ) and tragacanth ( Astragalus ), but they are also found less often on composites (Asteraceae) and umbellifers (Apiaceae) . The Imagines suck preferable to the immature reproductive organs of their host plants.
