Gene Walker

Eugene "Gene" Walker (* 14. February 1938 in Columbus (Ohio) , † 21st July 2014 ) was an American rhythm and blues - and jazz - saxophonist .

Live and act

Walker graduated from Ohio State University and toured a. a. with Sam Cooke , Jackie Wilson , Aretha Franklin , The Isley Brothers , Neil Diamond , Wilson Pickett and The Beatles . In his home region he performed with his band Gene Walkers Generations . Walker was inducted into the Columbus Musicians Hall of Fame in 1988. In 2000 he recorded the album Last Night in Manhattan , with Etta Jones as a guest vocalist. In 2005 the album Friends followed , on which u. a. and Gloria Coleman participated. In the field of jazz he was involved in 14 recording sessions between 1956 and 2007. a. with Stomp Gordon , Byrdie Green , Johnny Hammond Smith , Freddy McCoy , Hank Marr , Lloyd Price and Chris Columbo . From 1989 to 2001 he taught saxophone and ensemble playing at Ohio State University in Columbus, and also on the summer courses of Jamey Aebersold .
