Building of the Superintendentur Bockenem

The general diocese of Bockenem was an ecclesiastical supervisory district in the area of today's Evangelical Lutheran regional church of Hanover .

The general superintendent was established together with that in Alfeld in 1569 shortly after Duke Julius von Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel came to power and, with the exception of the years 1679 to 1690, was associated with the first parish in Bockenem . From 1679 to 1690 the seat of the general superintendent was in Salzgitter . The area of the General Diocese was subdivided into the three special superintendents Nice, Niederfreden and Seesen. The Seesen superintendent was later relocated to Greene and Gandersheim.

The General Diocese of Bockenem was abolished in 1806 and merged with the General Diocese of Alfeld to form the new General Diocese of Hildesheim .
