Achatius Mylius

Achatius Mylius (born January 30, 1608 in Ostrau near Halle (Saale) , † December 24, 1664 in Alfeld (Leine) ) was a German Lutheran theologian and general superintendent of the general dioceses of Bockenem and Alfeld .

Life

Mylius was a son of pastor Valentin Mylius (1568-1644) and Katharina Lohmann, a daughter of Valentin Lohmann from Brunswick. He received private tuition and attended school in Braunschweig . From 1628 he studied philosophy at the University of Helmstedt . In 1632 he became court master in Braunschweig, after two and a half years he returned to Helmstedt, where he studied theology. He became pastor in Sommersdorf in 1635 and in Hevensen in 1640 . In 1643 he was appointed to the first parish office in Bockenem and at the same time superintendent of the general diocese of Bockenem. In 1647 he became the first pastor and general superintendent of the general diocese of Alfeld. In 1652 he received his doctorate in theology at the University of Helmstedt under Georg Calixt .

Achatius Mylius died of a heart attack and was buried on January 6th in the church in Alfeld. From his marriage in 1638 to Hedewig Klingelmann, a daughter of Pastor Kasper Klingelmann in Hondeln near Braunschweig, he had twelve children. Of these, three sons and four daughters survived their father.
