General Diocese of Alfeld
The general diocese of Alfeld was an ecclesiastical supervisory district in the area of today's Evangelical Lutheran regional church of Hanover . It was created in 1569 when the Lutheran regional church of the Principality of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel was reorganized . With the restitution of the Hildesheim Monastery in 1643, it was subordinated to the Lutheran consistory in Hildesheim, whose area of responsibility was expanded to the Kingdom of Hanover and its regional church after 1802 ; only the administrative areas of Holzminden and Halle remained with Braunschweig.
The general superintendent was the owner of the first parish office and superintendent in Alfeld . The superintendents of the special dioceses in Halle, Holzminden, Wrisbergholzen ("Dietrichholtensen") and Lamspringe were assigned to him .
In 1818 the General Diocese of Alfeld was merged with the General Diocese of Bockenem to form the new General Diocese of Hildesheim . The seat remained in Alfeld until 1833 and was then moved to Elze and in 1853 to Hildesheim .
