Esaias Kruger

Esaias Krüger (born June 1, 1544 in Cölln ; † March 20, 1609 in Gera ) was a German Lutheran theologian .

Life

The son of the councilor Hieronymus Krüger and his wife Margaretha Holdenart was the youngest child of fourteen siblings. After attending the school in Berlin in 1559, he moved to the school in Magdeburg , then switched to the school in Brandenburg and went to training in Halberstadt , where he also became the school's teacher. He went to the University of Frankfurt (Oder) , where Andreas Musculus , Christoph Corner and Heinrich Paxmann were his teachers. Because of the rampant plague there, he returned to Berlin, where he became a private tutor to some noble families. After attending other universities, he had been studying theology at the University of Jena since 1568 with Tilemann Hesshus , Johannes Wigand and Timotheus Kirchner .

He was then vice-principal of the school in Weimar, became a deacon in Jena in 1572 and witnessed the expulsion of the Lutheran theologians from Thuringia. So he went into exile in Stollberg / Erzgeb. back, looked for new tasks and in 1574 found a job with Duke Julius in Alfeld as general superintendent of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel. Here he participated in the founding of the University of Helmstedt . In 1580 he moved to Gera as pastor and superintendent . In Gera he was mainly involved in the work of the consistory and thus had to take care of questions of canon law. With increasing age his health decreased. In the last years of his life he was assigned a representative.

family

Kruger was married twice. On August 29, 1569 he had married Anna († 1591 in Gera), the daughter of the superintendent in Gera Bartholomäus Rosinus (1520-1586). The marriage resulted in two sons and five daughters. His second marriage was on September 25, 1592 with Susanna (* 1551; born June 20, 1613 in Gera), the widow of the pastor in robes Georg Anthonius. The marriage remained childless.   • Anna Krüger (born September 4, 1570 in Weimar, † March 30, 1644 in Gera) married. 1586 with the superintendent Gera Friedrich Glaser (1556–11 May 1615 in Gera)
  • Maria Krüger married May 5, 1593 with the pastor in Langenberg Heinrich Volimhaus
  • Katharina Krüger I. Married January 22nd, 1600 with the pastor in Tanna Nikolaus Amelung; II. Marriage on September 3, 1616 in Gera with the Gera archdeacon Matthias Müller
  • Magdalena Krüger I. marriage on October 20, 1601 with NN. Neumann; II Marriage on May 28, 1605 with the Gera superintendent Nikolaus Heyder
