Eberhard Mesomylius

Eberhard Mesomylius (actually Eberhard Mittelmüller; * 1570 in Wetter ; † February 13, 1630 in Bockenem ) was a German Lutheran clergyman and professor of theology at the University of Rinteln .

Life

Eberhard Mesomylius attended the pedagogy in Marburg from 1587 and studied theology in Marburg , Strasbourg , Tübingen and Basel from 1589 to 1591 . In 1599 he became pastor of the Lutheran congregation in the free imperial city of Gelnhausen . In 1610 he moved to a parish in Lemgo .

In 1618 Mesomylius received a reputation as a professor of theology at the school in Stadthagen and later in Rinteln , where the establishment in 1621 during the War Thirty Years' was moved. Mesomylius received his doctorate in theology in 1621 in connection with the inauguration ceremony of the University of Rinteln . In 1623 Mesomylius fled to Bockenem from the troops of Duke Christian von Braunschweig , who destroyed the university.

Duke Friedrich Ulrich von Braunschweig and Lüneburg appointed Mesomylius as general superintendent and first preacher in Bockenem . At the same time he was also consistorial councilor at the Wolfenbüttel consistory .

The Thirty Years' War also haunted him in Bockenem; In 1626 the imperial general, Count von Tilly, occupied the rectory. From here Tilly organized his sieges of the cities of Münden and Göttingen as well as the battle against the Danish king Christian IV at Lutter am Barenberge .

Mesomylius was sued in 1628 by the mayor and council of Bockenem because of his frank words against the injustice of the war for insult. Eberhard Mesomylius died in Bockenem in 1630.
