He was known as The Strangler of Vitebsk , as he had committed all the murders in Vitebskaya Woblasz.

Life

Gennadi Modestowitsch Michassewitsch was born on April 7, 1947 in the village of Ist. In his childhood he was a humble and withdrawn boy. His father was addicted to alcohol. Gennady Michassewitsch did military service, but was dismissed for health reasons.

Mikhassevich committed his first murder at the age of 24 on May 14, 1971 in the village of Ekiman '. The killer remembered having a mental health problem back then after breaking up with his girlfriend. On that day, Mikhassevich tried to commit suicide by hanging. However, he saw a girl named Lyudmila Andaralova whom he raped and choked. During interrogation he says: "Why do I have to hang myself because of the woman, I would rather choke a woman myself". From 1971 to 1985 he murdered 36 women, 12 of them in 1985. He took his victims in the car, took them to deserted places, raped them and strangled them. On August 30, 1984, he murdered two women in one day.

Despite his crimes, Mikhassevich looked like a model member of the family. He was married with a son and a daughter. Mikhassevich worked in a workshop, and his photo always stayed on the roll of honor. His way of life was healthy. Michassewitsch was also a henchman ("Druzhinnik") and an external militiaman. He was a member of the CPSU .

It took investigators many years to establish the existence of a serial killer. Michal Schawnerowitsch, the investigator, whose performance was very high, had fabricated many confessions and tortured the alleged perpetrators. A total of 14 people were convicted of Mikhassevich's crimes, including one man who was executed and another who went blind in prison. Nikolai Ignatovich, a young investigator from the Vitebsk Public Prosecutor's Office, was the first to understand that the murders on the streets between Vitebsk and Polotsk were committed by a single person. Ignatovich was under pressure from his superiors, but defended his point of view. When Yuri Andropov was elected General Secretary of the CPSU in 1982 , the new Interior Minister Vitaly Fedorchuk demanded that the crime of the strangler of Vitebsk be investigated as soon as possible.

In 1985, witnesses to a crime committed by Michassevich stated that one of his victims sat in a red Zaporozhez . All drivers of such vehicles were then checked. Michassewitsch had checked the drivers of red Zaporozhez himself, as he was an external police officer. Graphologist Mikhail Bukato began researching the manuscripts of all red Zaporozhez drivers who lived in Vitebskaya Woblasz. On August 16, 1985, Mikhassevich wrote a letter to the newspaper "The Vitebsk Worker" ( Russian Витебский рабочий ) in the name of the fictional anti-Soviet organization "The Vitebsk Patriots" ( Russian Патриоты Витебска ), which consisted of allegedly jealous men betrayed to their wives and avenged themselves by murdering women. In this way, Michassevich left a sample of his handwriting. On November 7, 1985, he murdered his last victim and put a piece of paper in the victim's mouth with the text "Death for treason. Fight against the cops and the communists". The handwriting matched the handwriting of the author of the letter in the newspaper "The Vitebsk Worker". Mikhassevich was arrested on December 9, 1985. Then he was ready for a trip to Odessa .

The psychiatric examination showed that Michassewitsch was sane. In 1987 Michassevich was sentenced to death . His mother appealed the judgment, but she failed in the appeal process. The sentence was carried out on January 19, 1988 in Pishchalausky Castle in Minsk . Among the investigators who had previously carried out sentences against the innocent, only one was imprisoned for four years.

In 2007, the moderator has Leonid Kanewski a series of his documentaries "Следствие вели ..." ( "The investigation led ..." transliteration "Sledstwie weli ...") about the case Gennady Petrovich Mich aces on NTV filmed.
