history
Genschmar was first mentioned in 1405 as "Gentzmer" in the register of the Lebus diocese . The name Gentzmer (since 1598 Genschmar) could etymologically be traced back to the Slavic form of a pre-Slavic water name on -mar (= watery terrain), which would correspond to the geographical location. On the other hand, the Slavic form of the Germanic word Gansmari (Old and Middle High German "goose") could be the namesake. The coat of arms decided on May 29, 1997 takes up these interpretations as a talking coat of arms.
In 1953 the LPG was founded in town.
In 1958 the Free German Youth (FDJ) organized a socialist development camp for the establishment of a socialist youth village, in which apprentices from the Seelow vocational school completed 4,500 hours and created a value of 280,000 marks.
