Geoff Simkins

Geoff Simkins (* 13. October 1948 in Greenford , Middlesex as Geoffrey David Simkins ) is an English jazz musician ( alto saxophone , and clarinet , and occasionally drums ) formed on Lee Konitz oriented mainstream jazz plays.

Live and act

Simkins comes from a musical family: his father was the band leader Benny Simkins (1911–1988); the pianist Pete Simkins is his older brother. He grew up in Brighton , where he first appeared as a drummer in his father's bands at a young age, but also with Ted Ambrose, Terry Whitney and Roy Bower. Then he switched to the saxophone and became a member of Harry Strutter's Hot Rhythm Orchestra . In the early 1970s he moved to London, where he also performed with Temperance Seven .

From the mid-1970s he also worked with Campbell Burnap and made long guest appearances in Switzerland. He has accompanied musicians such as Art Farmer , Bobby Shew , Al Cohn , Tal Farlow , Slide Hampton , Warren Vaché , Al Gray , Kenny Davern , Bill Berry , Al Casey , Ruby Braff , Bill Coleman and Conte Candoli . Since the 1980s he worked with Danny Moss , with whom he also recorded, as well as with Billy Butterfield , Yank Lawson and Howard Alden . He then led combos with Dave Cliff and formed his own quartet with Nikki Iles , Simon Woolf and Martin France . With Cliff he was also part of the Allan Ganley trio ( Live at the Station ).
