life and work
Bartlett trained as a sculptor from 1971 to 1973 at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Melbourne, where he studied until 1976. Immediately after arriving in New York, he moved to the Storm King Art Center in Mountainville , where he worked with David Smith , who did not recognize him. The disappointment that followed had a lasting impact on his own work, which is expressed in his restless room layout and in his three-dimensional works.
Bartlett has taught sculpture at various institutions and universities: Deakin University , Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Chisholm Institute and Victoria College of Art . From 1990 to 1994 he was a professor at Monash University .
In 2007 Bartlett's work was exhibited at the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne as a survey exhibition by Geoffrey Bartlett from 1987 to 2007 .
