Georg Adam Scheid

Georg Adam Scheid (born July 28, 1838 in Schönau (Odenwald) , Baden , † April 3, 1921 in Meran ) was a German-Austrian entrepreneur and jewelry manufacturer.

Life

Scheid was a son of the Schönau master baker (Johann) Daniel Scheid and Elisabeth Heidenreich. He completed a commercial apprenticeship by 1853 and then initially worked in Pforzheim and Stuttgart . In 1858 he went to Vienna and worked there in the workshop of his future father-in-law, the silverware manufacturer and jeweler Michael Markowitsch . Together they founded the OHG Markowitsch & Scheid in 1862 . 20 years later he left the flourishing company and founded a jewelry factory under his name in 1882 and the Georg Adam Scheid`sche Affinerie in 1884 , from which Ögussa later emerged. In 1911 he retired. Scheid was buried in the Protestant cemetery in Simmering . His jewelry work bears the signet "GAS" or "SGA"
