Auberlen, initially a teacher at a girls' school in Markgröningen , was a schoolmaster in Fellbach from 1756. In addition, he was active in the church service as a messner . He played the organ , piano and violin and composed cantatas , motets and songs that were performed on Sundays and public holidays in the Fellbach church. He also founded a private music college for talented students in Fellbach and trained young teachers there. One of his most talented students was his nephew and later son-in-law Nikolaus Ferdinand Auberlen , who succeeded him in 1784.

With 55 cantatas he was the first of the Auberlen family to become known for his musical talent. Together with other members of his family, he is one of the namesake for today's Auberlen secondary school in Fellbach. His musical legacy is kept in the Württemberg State Library in Stuttgart . His son was the musician and song composer Samuel Gottlob Auberlen .
