Georg Dasch

Georg Dasch , also Gregor Daschius (* around 1510 in Würzburg , † 1578 in Gotha ), was mayor of Gotha.

Life

He enrolled at the Wittenberg University in 1538 . Around 1544 he married Ursula, the daughter of the painter Lucas Cranach the Elder , who entered into a second marriage with him after a short previous marriage (1537–1541).

After he had refused a call to the court of the Würzburg bishop because of his evangelical faith, he should on the recommendation of Joachim Camerarius and Philipp Melanchthon in June 1544 to the court of Georg III. go from Anhalt , but that did not happen. When he had the intention to undertake a study trip to the Italian universities in the summer of 1545, Melanchthon advised against it, so he gave up this plan.

Probably as a result of the Schmalkaldic War , he moved to Gotha, where he lived in his father-in-law's house. Equipped with a brilliant testimony from Melanchthon on May 25, 1548, he received official appointments in Gotha in a short time . First he was appointed administrator of the monastery and the ministrature and the local city administration elected him city clerk and mayor. Dasch could not fully cope with the increasing burden, so in autumn 1548 he asked for the removal from the office of administrator of the monastery and the ministrature. This request was complied with and in 1550 the council transferred the office of Justus Menius . Dasch, on the other hand, appears in 1563 as a licentiate of rights and court procurator.
