Georg Ernst Tatter (court gardener)

Georg Ernst Tatter (born April 8, 1689 in Meiningen , † December 13, 1755 in Herrenhausen near Hanover ) was a German court gardener .

Life

Georg Ernst Tatter was a member of the Tatter family of gardeners and court gardeners, who had been known in the Saxon-Thuringian region since the first half of the 17th century . He is considered the progenitor of the Hanover family. Two of his five children also became gardeners in Herrenhausen. His grandson of the same name Georg Ernst Tatter (1757–1805) became a Hanoverian Legation Councilor and diplomat.

Georg Ernst Tatter moved to Herrenhausen as an orangery gardener in 1734 and also brought an important collection of his own orangery plants and exotic plants with him. In Herrenhausen he also introduced the breeding of pineapples .

In 1744 Tatter went on a study trip to England together with the garden artist Matthias Charbonnier and the diplomat and garden architect Friedrich Karl von Hardenberg .
