Georg Friedrich Fickert
Georg Friedrich Fickert (born November 20, 1758 in Bartsdorf ( Striegau , present-day Poland ); † May 6, 1815 in Groß-Wilkau ( Silesia ); also Georg-Friedrich Fickert or George Friedrich Fickert ) was a German hymn poet and pastor.
Life
Fickert was born the son of a master tailor and his wife, Elisabeth, née Fichtner. At the age of 13 he was sent to a school, three years later to a grammar school in Schweidnitz . He studied in Halle (Saale) from May 2, 1781 . In 1795 he became a pastor in Reichau and married Christiane Dorothea Laengner. Fickert had six children with his wife, two of whom died at a young age. After 18 years they separated again because Christiane was not interested in her husband's job and she moved back to her parents. In Großwilkau he worked from 1810. In addition to his pastoral office, he published a weekly Christian newspaper on revival and mission (Christianity) . The reason for his death is believed to be the poverty of his family.
