Georg Friedrich Kaulfuss
Georg Friedrich Kaulfuss , also Kaulfuss , (born April 8, 1786 in Leipzig , Kingdom of Saxony , † December 9, 1830 in Halle (Saale) , Prussia ) was a Saxon, German botanist. His author's abbreviation is Kaulf.
Live and act
His father Christian Friedrich Kaulfuß was a doctor of both rights and a manor owner, his mother Catharina Elisabeth, a born grand. Until he was 15 he was tutored by private tutors.
In 1812 he discovered the moss Oreoweisa bruntonii in Styria . He also described Grimmia elongata . In 1816 he obtained his doctorate in Halle. jur. et phil.
He became a private lecturer in 1816, an associate professor in 1823 and full professor of botany in 1828. On March 20, 1819 (matriculation no. 1134) he was elected a member of the Leopoldina with the surname Magus .
Honors
The genus Kaulfussia Nees from the sunflower family (Asteraceae) is named after Kaulfuss .
