Carl Cnobloch (publisher)
Carl Christian Cnobloch , also Karl Cnobloch , (born August 10, 1778 in Freyburg (Unstrut) , † April 30, 1834 in Leipzig ) was a German bookseller and publisher in Leipzig.
Life
Carl received elementary school lessons from his father, the superintendent Cnobloch, and from relatives in Bösenrode . In 1793 he went to Leipzig as an apprentice to the bookseller Adam Friedrich Böhme (1771-1818). In 1806 Cnobloch returned to Leipzig from stays in Halle and Paris . In 1809 he became self-employed and gradually bought up the following companies in the book industry; incorporated them into his "Verlag Carl Cnobloch, Leipzig":
- 1818 Leipzig: AF Böhme,
- March 13, 1825 Jena : Christian Ernst Gabler, Melchiorsche Buchhandlung until 1794,
- Leipzig: CG Martini, founded in 1793,
- Leipzig: KW Küchler, formerly Rösescher Verlag in Greifswald ,
- 1827 Leipzig: Johann Balthasar Schiegg and
- Basel : HA Rottmann.
Carl Cnobloch died after a long illness. His son-in-law Eduard Langbein (1802-1857) continued the business. The widow sold to Ernst Keßner in 1857. After his death in 1866, LW Reisland and Max Cyriacus took over the publishing house.
