Georg Friedrich Vicedom

Georg Friedrich Vicedom (born August 8, 1903 in Unterrimbach near Burghaslach (Middle Franconia), † October 13, 1974 in Neuendettelsau ) was a Lutheran theologian and missiologist .

Life

Vicedom was at Mission Seminar Neuendettelsau under the direction of Christian Keysser for missionary trained and was from 1929 to 1939 as a missionary in New Guinea operates. This resulted in an extensive scientific study of the Mbowamb , a tribe that lives in the highlands of New Guinea.

After the Second World War, he headed the New Guinea department in the Neuendettelsau Mission and was inspector of the mission house from 1946 to 1956. After many years of teaching assignments, he took over the newly established mission science chair at the Augustana University in Neuendettelsau in 1956 , which he held until his retirement in 1972.

Georg Vicedom was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit on December 7, 1964 .
