Georg Garbotz

Georg Garbotz (born May 25, 1891 in Breslau ; † July 18, 1976 in Aachen ) was a German mechanical engineer and university professor .

Life

Garbotz studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Wroclaw and graduated in 1914 with the academic degree of graduate engineer . Garbotz was a member of the Wroclaw fraternity Germania .

From 1914 to 1916 he fought as a soldier in the First World War, from 1916 to 1921 he held a managerial position at the construction company Philipp Holzmann AG . 1920 doctorate he specialized in economics at the University of Frankfurt am Main Dr. rer. pole.; He then taught part-time as a private lecturer at the Technical University of Darmstadt in the subject of "Mechanical engineering in construction". From 1921 to 1924 he worked for Siemens-Bauunion .

As of April 2, 1924 taught until September 30, 1946 Garbotz at the Technical University Berlin , first as a lecturer and later as a full professor and professor on the established winter semester 1927/1928 Department of "Mechanical Engineering in Construction" at the Faculty of Civil Engineering . From October 1, 1946, he worked at the materials testing office in Berlin-Dahlem . From 1950 until his retirement in 1959 he taught as professor and director of the Institute for Construction Machinery and Construction Management at the Technical University of Aachen .

Honors

RWTH Aachen awarded Garbotz an honorary doctorate ( Dr.-Ing.Eh ). As part of the 100th anniversary of the Association of German Engineers (VDI) in 1956, he was awarded the VDI Badge of Honor.
