Georg Gotthilf Jacob Homann

Georg Gotthilf Jacob Homann (born January 23, 1774 in Budow , Stolp district , † February 18, 1851 in Gramenz , Bütow district ) was a German pastor, botanist and folklorist.

Life

Georg Gotthilf Jacob Homann was a son of the Budow pastor Johann Jacob Homann (1730–1799) and his wife Johanna Christina, nee. Kruska (1739-1804). From 1787 to 1793 he attended the pedagogy of the Kgl. Realschule in Berlin. He then studied theology in Halle until 1796 . After a few years as private tutor in Versin in the Rummelsburg district , he was pastor in Budow from 1800 to 1842 as the successor to his father. In 1843 he bought two farms in Gramenz, where he spent his old age.

He was a member of the Natural Research Society in Halle and published the first Flora of Pomerania. He also collected vernacular words and idioms from his homeland.
