Georg Gresko

Georg Gresko (born February 7, 1920 in Berlin-Wedding ; † July 28, 1962 in Hamburg ) was a German painter and graphic artist .

life and work

Already in 1934 Gresko became an evening student with the painter Otto Nagel . From 1936 he began an apprenticeship in glass painting . Gresko spent the first post-war years in Berlin , where in 1949 he organized self-help for artists that sold prints at low prices. In 1952 he was awarded the art prize of the city of Berlin and took over a lectureship at the master school for graphics and book trade in Berlin.

In 1957, Hans-Werner von Oppen brought Gresko to the University of Fine Arts Hamburg (HfbK) as a lecturer and took over the graphics class. In 1960 he was appointed professor there. Together with Horst Janssen and Paul Wunderlich , professors at the HfbK like himself, he was part of a group of friends of Hamburg artists. His best-known students include the painters and graphic artists Bruno Bruni and Wolfgang Oppermann .
