Georg Hörmann (gynecologist)

Georg Hörmann (born May 31, 1914 in Oldenburg , † March 19, 1996 in Lübeck ) was a German gynecologist .

Life

Georg Hörmann studied medicine from 1933 to 1939 at the Universities of Heidelberg , Königsberg , Munich and Kiel . In 1939 he passed the state examination in Kiel and received his doctorate with a thesis on infant nutrition. After a traineeship at the Children's University Clinic in Kiel, he began training as a gynecologist in 1940 at the University Women's Clinic in Kiel (Director Ernst Philipp ). From 1944 to 1945 Hörmann was drafted into military service. 1945–1946 he was an assistant at the University Institute for Pathological Anatomy in Kiel (Director Walter Büngeler ). In 1946 he was recognized as a specialist in gynecology and obstetrics . In 1947 he completed his habilitation with a thesis on disorders in pregnancy.

In 1953, Hörmann was appointed adjunct professor in Kiel and from 1961 to 1963 he was acting director of the university women's clinic. In 1963 he was appointed professor of gynecology and obstetrics at the Free University of Berlin and director of the FU women's clinic in the Moabit municipal hospital, and in 1966 he was appointed full professor of gynecology and obstetrics at the FU Berlin. From 1969 to 1982 Hörmann was managing director of the gynecological clinic in the Steglitz Clinic of the Free University of Berlin . Under his directorate, the clinic's focus was on gynecological oncology , senology , endocrinology and placenta research .
