Georg Haase (master builder)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Georg Haase (born February 19, 1665 in Drebach ; † February 5, 1725 in Dresden ) was a German builder and master mason who worked in Dresden.

Life

Haase was born in Drebach; the Dresden Citizens Register noted that he was from "Trepach bey Annaberg". Haase went to Dresden, where he got married. The marriage had a son born in 1690. Haase acquired Dresden citizenship on February 17, 1697 as a bricklayer. From 1715 he lived in the house at Rampische Strasse 7 . In 1719 he was appointed master mason. Haase died on February 5, 1725 in Dresden and was buried in Dresden on February 11.

Act

Marperger and Hasche know to report that he built many “beautiful houses” in Dresden. Rolf Wilhelm found that Haase was one of the builders who "had achieved some reputation through technical training and hard work."

Haase worked in the style of the Bohemian Baroque. Various residential buildings in Dresden are attributed to him, such as Neumarkt 16 , Landhausstraße 25 and An der Frauenkirche 14 . In addition to the “Die Schiffsmühle” house , he also built buildings on Große Brüdergasse and Rampische Strasse. Klaus Mertens proved that many houses in Rampische Strasse largely corresponded to the “Haus Schiffsmühle”. By building numerous houses in the prominent street, which is unique due to its urban connection to the Frauenkirche, Haase had, according to Stefan Hertzig, an "important part in a building ensemble that was considered to be one of the most valuable spatial images in Europe".
