Georg Philipp Heer (born January 26, 1860 in Melsungen , † March 2, 1945 in Marburg ) was a German lawyer and student historian .

life and work

Heer was born the son of an accountant and attended the Friedrichsgymnasium in Kassel . At that time he was a classmate of the future German Emperor Wilhelm II. The Association for Hessian History and Regional Studies has handed down the anecdote that Heer had to make himself a year older to graduate so that Wilhelm could graduate as the youngest of his year. Furthermore, Heer is said to have been angry years later that he stayed away from an imperial invitation to the class reunion in Wilhelmshöhe.

From 1877 Heer studied law in Marburg. During his studies in 1877 he became a member of the Arminia Marburg fraternity . After completing his studies, Heer finally came to the Marburg Regional Court , where he was appointed Regional Court Counselor in 1902 . During the First World War he worked as a judge- martial in Kassel. In 1917 he received the title of Privy Councilor of Justice . In 1925 he retired.

Along with Gustav Heinrich Schneider and Herman Haupt, from 1892 Heer was one of the founders of the group of fraternities who initially only appeared as a loose association and who wanted to pass on the memory of the beginnings and historical role of the fraternities since 1815. From this structure, the Burschenschaftliche Historische Kommission developed on April 13, 1909 , and Heer, along with Haupt, Paul Wentzcke and Friedrich Meinecke, played a key role in building it up. In 1930 the Association for Hessian History and Regional Studies made the Army an honorary member.

He was buried on March 10, 1945.
