from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Georg Hohlneicher (born March 13, 1937 in Munich ; † March 10, 2020 there ) was a German physicist and professor at the University of Cologne .

biography

Georg Hohlneicher studied technical physics at the TH Munich . He wrote his diploma thesis at the Institute for Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry with Günter Scheibe . There he received his doctorate in 1962 on the subject of the application of the extended π-electron theory according to Hartmann-Ruch to unsaturated hydrocarbons and dyes. Critical studies of the mesomeric energy .

In 1967 he qualified as a professor at the Technical University of Munich in the subject of physical chemistry with the subject of the theoretical interpretation of the electronic spectra of unsaturated compounds based on the models of Pariser, Parr and Pople (PPP) .

From 1972 to 1992 he held a chair for theoretical chemistry at the Institute for Organic Chemistry at the University of Cologne and in 1992 switched to a chair at the Institute for Physical Chemistry. In addition, from 1978 to 1980 he was Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences . In 1988, together with Ehrhard Raschke , he organized a symposium on environmentally-oriented risk assessment and on questions of risk acceptance in connection with the celebration of the six hundredth anniversary of the founding of the University of Cologne . From 1993 to 1998 he was scientific director of the university's computing center . He was the author of numerous scientific publications.

Hohlneicher was married and had two daughters.

Research priorities

  • Determination of the geometry of molecules in different electronic states. Use of ab initio , semi-empirical and DFT methods
  • Theoretical studies of the excited electronic states of medium-sized organic molecules. Spectrum simulation on an ab initio and semi-empirical level
  • Quantum dynamic analysis of molecular systems
