Georg Jappe

Georg Jappe (born May 7, 1936 in Cologne , † March 16, 2007 in Kleve ) was a German artist , writer and publicist .

life and work

Jappe passed away as the son of senior teacher Dr. Hajo Jappe and his wife Gioia Schubring († 1992) spent his youth in South Tyrol . He finished high school in 1955 with the Abitur. He began studying theater studies and philosophy in Frankfurt am Main , Paris and Vienna . He obtained his doctorate in 1961 with the subject of La Marionette Artistique .

From 1961 to 1962 he worked as a university advisor. In 1962 he took up a job as a radio play editor at WDR . He worked as a literary critic from 1963. He worked for the Kölner Stadtanzeiger and as a freelance art critic from 1964 to 1966.

From 1966 to 1975 he was employed by the FAZ as a freelancer. Since 1975 he has performed these tasks in the newspaper Die Zeit . He also worked as a critic in Europe for various newspapers and magazines. He worked for HR and Merkur magazine .

He started teaching in 1975 at the comprehensive university in Essen and at the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg for the subjects of art and literature. In 1979 he was appointed professor for art theory at the University of Fine Arts and taught there until 2001.

Since 1961 he was married to Elisabeth Kluytenaar.
