Georg Karl Wisner von Morgenstern (also Juraj Karlo ; born December 16, 1783 in Arad , † May 14, 1855 in Zagreb ) was a composer , conductor and music teacher .

Life

The musician, who comes from the Hungarian aristocratic family Wisner von Morgenstern , was presumably hired by Bishop Maximilian Vrhovac around 1819 as a choralist for the Agram Cathedral Music. He soon played a prominent role in the Zagreb music scene, played in a string quartet and was involved in numerous musical performances as a soloist or conductor. At the same time he was an important music teacher. His students included Josip Juratović , Ivan Padovec , Fortunat Pintaric , Franjo Pokorni and Vatroslav Lisinski , the composer of the Croatian national opera Ljubav i zloba (love and malice), on whose instrumentation Wisner von Morgenstern played a key role.

In addition to two operas ( Vanda and Alexis ) in German, Wisner von Morgenstern also composed orchestral works and church music. A collection of waltzes and trios was created for dance entertainment, in which the Austrian imperial hymn can be heard as a waltz.
