Georg Löw (born August 26, 1830 in Berg (Horka) b. Eger in Western Bohemia , † May 8, 1887 in Zizkow ) was a German-Bohemian railway specialist and general director of the Bohemian Northern Railway in the Austro-Hungarian monarchy .

Life

After completing his studies at the Technical University in Vienna and at the German Technical University in Prague, Löw became the operations director of the Bohemian Western Railway in 1860 . From 1865 to 1883 he held a managerial position at the Turnau-Kralup-Prague Railway and at the same time at the Bohemian Northern Railway. In 1883 Löw was appointed general director of the new Bohemian Northern Railway and was the first chairman of the German Polytechnic Association in Prague.

From September 7, 1871, Georg Löw was a member of the Bohemian state parliament for the rural communities in the districts of Eger, Wildstein and Asch and a member of the state committee (1882 to 1887).

He worked for many cultural institutions. As the founder and first chairman of the German Polytechnic Association, he was a close friend of the politician Franz Schmeykal and chairman of the building committee of the German Theater in Prague. In 1866 he achieved special merits in the onward transport of Austrian wounded in the German War and was honored and awarded several times.

Georg Löw was buried in Frauenreuth on May 11, 1887, after his death in 1887 after an accident while building a factory in Prague , where his grave was still preserved in 2013.
