Georg Martin Dursch (also Johann Georg Martin, born November 11, 1800 in Deggingen near Geislingen ; † February 21, 1881 in Rottweil ) was a German educator, Catholic theologian, Indologist and art collector as well as writer.

Live and act

After studying in Tübingen and being ordained a priest on September 24, 1825, he received his doctorate in theology and philosophy, followed by a degree in oriental studies with a focus on Sanskrit in Paris and, after a vicariate in Weil der Stadt, became a professor at the grammar school in Ehingen / Donau in 1829 . Here he and colleagues founded an anti-celibacy association , which was banned after a few years. A trip to Rome and the private audience he was granted with the Pope did not advance his concern. Disappointed, he switched to a largely apolitical topic from 1837, collecting sacred art. In 1842 he became dean and pastor in Wurmlingen, in 1850 first city pastor and then deanin Rottweil (1858). The Dursch collection contains late Gothic wooden sculptures and panel paintings that have been housed in the Lorenz Chapel since 1851 and moved to the Dominican Museum in Rottweil in 1991 . The part of the collection of old Swabian paintings sold to Bishop Joseph von Lipp in 1862 established the beginnings of today's Diocesan Museum Rottenburg .
