Georg Matt

Georg Matt (born March 12, 1861 in Rankweil ; † July 20, 1938 in Bregenz ) was an Austrian sculptor .

Georg Matt received his training from his father, the sculptor Johann Matt, and worked in his workshop until 1879. He then worked independently in Rankweil, from 1884 to 1892 he studied at the Imperial and Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under Edmund von Hellmer and Caspar von Zumbusch and received the Golden Füger Medal in 1888 for solving the task of Jesus raising the daughter of Jairus Life . From 1892 to 1894 he worked as a freelance sculptor in Vienna, then in Fritz Schaper's workshop in Berlin. In 1895 he settled in Bregenz, where he lived and worked until his death. In the two decades before the First World War, in particular, he was a sought-after sculptor who created figures for memorials, war memorials and tombs, but also sculptural elements for buildings.
